Nas Abbas

Piano, Guitar, Bass, Percussion

Nas Abbas grew up in North Carolina and has been playing music since he was a child, learning piano, guitar, drums, bass, and trombone by the time he finished high school. During high school he played in concert band, jazz band, and various other bands. During that time, he played shows and co-wrote a rock opera with friends. He attended UNC Chapel Hill where he received a degree in communications with a focus on audio production, and a minor in music. While at UNC he fronted the band Lake Inferior in which he was the main songwriter and vocalist, playing guitar and keyboards as well as handling production duties. They signed to a label, released two EP’s, and toured the east coast.

With eight years of music teaching experience, Nas is passionate about cultivating a love of music in his students. He has taught piano, guitar, bass, and drums in studios, at students’ homes, online, as well as in his own home studio. He loves listening to and teaching all genres of music and tries to personally tailor his lessons based on what music his students are interested in. Nas seeks to create an encouraging and engaging learning environment where students can feel comfortable trying new things, making mistakes, and having fun. In addition to teaching music, he has also taught various subjects to community college students, high schoolers in Spain, and Chinese students online. He and his wife Sarah live in Chapel Hill, and in addition to composing and performing music solo or with friends, he enjoys cooking, hiking, watching movies, and spending time with his cat Francis.
